Ulan-Ude Travel and City Excursions

Our Best Ulan-Ude Day Tours of 2022

Not far from the southern shore of Lake Baikal lies a unique city, Ulan-Ude. It is the capital of Buryatia, a gorgeous region of mountains, forests and and steppes. Despite being a closed city until 1991, you are now free to visit Ulan-Ude and there’s no better way to do so than on our city tour. Whilst your private guide tells you about Ulan-Ude’s history, you’ll visit cultural and historical highlights, markets, temples, churches and the river. Ulan-Ude has an exotic atmosphere as one third of its population are Buryats, a Mongol ethnic group. Learn about the Buryat culture and the other indigenous peoples of the east Baikal region with a fascinating tour around Ulan-Ude’s open-air Ethnographic Museum. As Buryatia is the spiritual home of Russian Buddhism, Ulan-Ude is home to some truly beautiful temples. Accompanied by an expert guide you can visit Ivolginsky Datsan, a temple known as the centre of Buddhism in Russia. As well as its Buddhist heritage, the region is also home to another religion - that of the old-believers, banished to the East centuries ago for their religious nonconformity. Step back in time on a visit to an old-believer village which has preserved its customs over the centuries, even down to the wooden houses and traditional dress.

All our Ulan-Ude tours are privately booked for single travellers or groups, can be accommodated around your itinerary, and include your own guide/translator and private vehicle. Please contact us for further information about arranging a tour, using the form at the side of the page. You can also schedule a call with one of our Russian travel specialists to learn more.
