New Holland Island Reopens
New Holland Island reopened to the public for the summer season this past weekend, and will remain open until mid September. However, this will be the last summer that New Holland is open in it's current state.
At the end of the summer season, the island will close for a three year reconstruction period when the $12 billion urban renewal project will get it's major face lift. The final development plans are due to be approved the the proper institutions this summer and work is scheduled to start in the fall.
The island is currently open to the public with a couple of cafes, art shops, kids center, lots of grass space for lounging and a small gardening area as well as free wifi! When the new project is realized the deisgners hope to inject some modern contemporary architechture into the city.
Marina Barbar, General Director of Iris New Holland, said that once the new island is fully developed, "we hope it will be a hub of arts, culture and education, which is also a place for technology and creative start-ups."
New Holland will be open through the summer until mid September, get out and enjoy it while you can.
