Description

The tour will take the visitor throughout the historical center of St. Petersburg and includes spectacular views of the Neva river, Canal Griboyedova, Moika canal, the many bridges connecting the city’s islands and trips to the 2 main islands of Petrogradsky and Vasilevsky. The tour will introduce the visitor to Nevsky Prospect – the city’s famous boulevard, the Winter Palace, other palaces and churches and to the areas of the city formerly inhabited by Dostoyevsky, Rasputin and numerous Russian princes and counts.
It is difficult to imagine Saint Petersburg without the Hermitage, attracting visitors from the entire world. The Hermitage along with the Louver in Paris, the National Gallery in London and the Prado in Madrid ranks as one of the world’s largest and greatest collections of art. The date of its foundation is considered to be 1764, the year when Catherine II purchased 225 paintings from the merchant Gotzkowski. Today, the collection numbers over 3 million items including works of art from prehistoric culture, Egyptian art, Antiquities, Scythian gold, great collections of Western European paintings and sculptures. Among the Hermitage’s treasures are artworks by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens and more.  The museum’s architecture will also impress with its solemnity and elegance – the museum being housed in the former Winter Palace of the Russian Tsars. A trip to the Hermitage will be one of the highlights of your Russian tour.
