Today, this is one of the most popular leisure areas for both Muscovites and visitors to the capital. The district of the VDNKh metro station is another place to visit. Modern constructions stand peacefully side by side with remarkable monuments of the past. The indissoluble unity of the national economy is symbolized by the world-renowned sculpture of V. Mukhina, “The Worker and the Collective-Farm Women”. The 24-metre high figures, carrying hammers and sickles, portray the romance, enthusiasm and powerful impulse of the first Soviet five-year plans. The tour will take the visitor on to many other interesting Soviet era sites – it is one of our most fascinating tours.

It was the mysterious silence. The harmony of the beauty of its completed forms… I sensed a striving upwards, and I stood stunned for a long time.”

You will have a unique opportunity to see that the process of wine distillation (the original name for vodka production) was very up-to-date for that time period. In the museum there is originally made installation, showing a Russian monk by the first distillation unit equipped with all the necessary devices and, first of all, with a coil pipe! You will be shown vodka bottles of different sizes, from shkalik (or kosushka) to shtof and quarter. The pride of the Museum is the bottle produced at the Kronshtadt table wine distillery in 1862. The museum guides can explain what chekushka is, how big the traditional Russian cup (charka, cheporuha) is, how drinking houses, or kabaks, are different from tractirs that appeared in Russia in the 1880´s, and what kinds of vodka were the most popular among members of different social groups. The choices were very wide: «Smirnovskaya», «Petrovskaya», «Popovka» (produced at the distillery of widow Popova) and «Pshenichnaya» (wheat), «Russkoe Dobro» (Russian goods) and «Dvoinaya Gor´kaya» (double bitter)… This list could be continued forever… In the beginning of the 20th century there were more than 5000 wineries in Russia located in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan as well as in other cities.

His literal interpretation of the ethical teachings of Jesus, centering on the Sermon on the Mount, caused him in later life to become a fervent Christian anarchist and anarcho-pacifist. The Anton Chekhov house museum walking tour

Duration: 3,5 hours

This tour is the perfect way to get to know one of the world's most sophisticated writers, Anton Chekhov. You will learn about Chekhov's life and visit the apartment where Chekhov and his relatives lived, including the study where Chekhov wrote. The museum contains number of Chekhov’s works, photographs and personal items.
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was a Russian physician, dramatist and author who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short stories in history. His career as a dramatist produced four classics and his best short stories are held in high esteem by writers and critics. Chekhov practised as a doctor throughout most of his literary career: "Medicine is my lawful wife", he once said, "and literature is my mistress."
Chekhov renounced the theater after the disastrous reception of "The Seagull" in 1896, but the play was revived to acclaim in 1898 by Constantin Stanislavski's Moscow Art Theater, which subsequently also produced Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" and premiered his last two plays, "Three Sisters" and "The Cherry Orchard".
Chekhov made formal innovations which have influenced the evolution of the modern short story. His originality consists in an early use of the stream-of-consciousness technique, later adopted by James Joyce and other modernists, combined with a disavowal of the moral finality of traditional story structure.
