Death Penalty Exhibition

History of the Death Penalty in Russia

The State Museum of the Political History of Russia in St. Petersburg is currently hosting an exhibition devoted to the history of the death penalty in Russia. The display continues with the museum's theme on the relationship between rulers and the ruled in Russia.

The exhibition highlights some of the most famous instances when the death penalty has been invoked in Russia, as well as covering the opinions and arguments of both proponents and opponents of the death penalty.

The exhibition offers visitors a chance to see unique materials from the archive of the State Museum of Political History of Russia that recount several executions in Russia including: the execution of the Decembrists, Pervomartovtsi (those of March 1st), participants of assassination attempts on tsarist officials and loads more.

The death penalty has been surrounded by controversy for much of its use around the world throughout history, and this exhibition gives great insight into the death penalty in Russia.

The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 - 18:00 except for Thursday and the last Monday of the month. The State Museum of Political History of Russia is located at Ul. Kuybysheva 2-4 near Metro Gorkovskaya.
