Georgian Wine in Russia?

With improved relations with Georgia and new Georgian President Bidzina Ivanishvili, Russia looks at the possibility of resuming wine imports from the country it just 4 years ago fought a war with.

Georgian wine is widely popular and highly sought after in Russia, especially since it was banned in 2006.

This is particularly good new for Georgians and the Georgian economy. Last year total exports of Georgian wine amounted to only 23 million bottles, compared to 57 million bottles exported in 2005 while still trading with Russia.

For Russians it will be a big plus also, as the wine is very popular throughout the country.
