Within a leisurely stroll from Nevsky Prospect is the historic building of the Helvetia Hotel, with origins dating back to the early 19th century. The hotel’s interiors successfully combine St. Petersburg’s harmonious style with the elegance of European design. An inseparable part of the fasade of impressive buildings along Marata Street, the Helvetia’s wrought-iron gates open onto a spacious, picturesque courtyard. The outside of the hotel, as viewed from the courtyard, gives the impression of a miniature medieval European town, with noble lines and a cheerful atmosphere of comfort and calm. In 2010 the Helvetia Hotel completed a major renovation project. Since Helvetia is housed in a nineteenth-century mansion protected as a national landmark, the reconstruction accurately preserved all the building’s historic architectural features. Remodeled, remarkably comfortable and in keeping with the spirit of Old Petersburg, the Helvetia Hotel is ready to greet the guests of 2011 on a brand new level of comfort and service.

Liked: The Hotel is situated at a very good location, the people were very friendly

Didn't like: The Hotel overcharges for outside services such as taxi (through the hotel it costs almost double than ordering the taxi privately). Also we found that Ballet tickets were much cheaper when bought directly. Other hotels routinely help to make the order but allow to pay directly.
