City walking tour combined with History museum, 2hrs

The tour takes you to the historical center of Ulan Ude. You will learn about the history of foundation of the city as Cossack fortification. You will also become acquainted with the city’s main highlights such as Lenin square with a huge bust of Lenin (the largest in the world), the Opera and Ballet theater, Gostiniy ryad – an old department store, the market, the Odigitriy Cathedral, Troitskaya church and the banks of the river Uda and Selenga which flow from Mongolia. This is a small and charming city with an Asian exotic feel. The museum displays cultural objects of the nation of Buryatia. The museum has 5 halls. There is a constant exhibition of Buddhist art which features a number of pages from the Atlas of Tibetan medicine. There is also an interesting exhibition that chronicles Buryatian history from the 17th to 20th century. It is a temporary exhibition.

Tour to Ivolginskiy Buddhist Temple (Datsan) with transport, 2hrs

We will visit a Buddhist service at the Ivolginskiy Datsan, the center of Buddhism in Russia. Buddhist monasteries are called datsan (dacan) in Buryatia. The largest one is in Ivolginsk, which is about 30 km from the city. After the service, on the bank of the picturesque Selenga river, we will have small picnic and visit a local pilgrimage site, the monument to Stavka Geser, a hero of Buryatian legends.

Excursion to a Russian Village with transport, 6hrs

You will visit an old Orthodox Russian village. You will see how Russians whose ancestors were sent to exile 3 centuries ago by Katherine the Great, live today. You will dine at the local “stolovaya” (a Soviet style café) and taste traditional Russian dishes such as borsch. You will also have the opportunity of taking a Russian steam bath or banya. After a rest we will return back to the city.

Ethnographical museum tour with transport, 3hrs

You will be taken to an open-air Ethnographical Museum with old Siberian houses and Buryat yurts (nomadic houses). The museum also displays objects of culture and family life of the nations of Transbaikalya (the East side of Lake Baikal). This museum will help you better understand the life of Siberian nomads.
