Urban Sites to See in Russia

There's a lot to see in Russia. Of course, when you are coming for the first time you cannot miss such famous sites as the Kremlin in Mosow and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. But those who have been to Russia before, might be interested in the so-called urban attractions. We would like to share with you several new urban venues to visit in the Russian cities.

Moscow, "The Central Children Store in Lubyanka"

In Moscow we can advise you to take a look at the recently re-opened "The Central Children Store in Lubyanka". Shop was opened in 1957th, and became the biggest children store in Soviet Union, but was closed and now completely renovated. Food facilities can be found on the last trade floor of the building; the floor above hosts "Museum of childhood", small part of the roof of the building is used as a viewing point.

Samara, "Barge Haulers on the Volga"

By the river embankment In Samara new sculptural composition "Barge Haulers on the Volga" was erected by Nokolai Kuklev. This sculpture is a bronze copy of the well-known painting by Ilya Repin. Composition weights 500 kg and is put into a frame, as if it is a real painting, but in this case the background is the real Volga River and nearby landscape.

St. Petersburg, “New Holland”

Saint Petersburg offers another interesting site - "New Holland", which is a man-made island in the historical center of the city. In 18th century, a navy prison was built on this spot. "New Holland" was a closed territory, in this area different experiments were held; ships and boats were tested. In 2011, for the first time in 300 years this island was opened to the public and now hosts different cultural and sport events.

Kazan, “The Temple of the Universe”

The Temple of the Universe, or Temple of All Religions is another place you can visit. It is located in the city of Kazan. By the idea of Ildar Khanov, this temple is not there for any rituals, but serves as an architectural symbol of religions, cultures and civilizations.
