Lifting the siege

On 27th of January St. Petersburg will commemorate the day when the siege was lifted. St. Petersburg, or Leningrad, as it was called during those times, has suffered 872 days of starvation under the constant bombardment of german forces during the Second World War.

This year city celebrates 70s anniversary of the lift the siege. Several events will be held this week as a remembrance for the descendants about the heroism and strength of the leningrad citizens. The campaign called "Ribbon of the Leningrad's Victory" has started on the 20th of January. Near the metro stations volunteers will hand to the people 250 thousands of olive ribbons as a symbol of victory.
 
On the 24th of January the closing of the Literature contest "No one forgotten - Nothing forgotten" is planned. On the 26th of January the Historical reconstruction "On the penetration line" will take place in the village near Lomonosovskiy region.
 
Main events will be held on the Palace Square on 27th of January. The Moment of Silence will begin in the evening, followed by the concert and parade of military and civil vehicles. Fireworks will begin at 21:00.
